With respect to the prophecies concerning God’s coming again, we should be very careful not to interpret them at will. As the Scripture says, “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (2 Peter 1:20-21) “…they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, to their own destruction.” (2 Peter 3:16) So, as for the prophecies concerning God’s coming again, we cannot interpret them according to our own thoughts or understand them literally. And the Scripture also says, “…the letter kills, but the spirit gives life.” (2 Corinthians 3:6) Actually, no prophecy in the Bible has ever been fulfilled literally. For example, it is recorded in Genesis that God once made Joseph, the son of Jacob, see in a dream the scene of the sun and the moon and eleven stars bowing down to him. (cf. Genesis 37:9) This was a vision God revealed to Joseph, which prophesied what God would accomplish upon him later. Literally, the sun and the moon and eleven stars in the physical world, that is, in space, would all bow down to Joseph. However, when the fact was accomplished, what people saw was that Joseph’s eleven brothers bowed down to him to ask for food. From this we see that the fulfilled fact of the prophecy is very different from its literal meaning. The prophecy contains God’s wisdom. Man cannot fathom it from its literal meaning but can only understand it after it is fulfilled.
Now let’s look at the prophecy the brothers and sisters asked about, “Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.” (Matthew 24:29) If we judge from the literal description of the scene in the prophecy, the day of the Lord’s coming is too terrifying. Take the stars falling from the sky for example. According to common sense, it seems impossible. Because the stars visible to the physical eyes are generally far larger than the earth, the earth is unable to bear even one star that falls from heaven, not to mention the stars. If the prophecy that “the stars will fall from heaven” were really fulfilled literally, then no one on earth could survive. In that case, does the Lord come to save man or to destroy man? Thus we can see that this prophecy isn’t fulfilled literally as we imagine. Actually, the word that “Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken” is to foreshadow the desolate scene that will occur in the churches of the Age of the Grace when the Lord comes again in the end time. That is to say, when such a condition occurs in the churches of Christianity, it proves that the Lord has already come. Then, what do the sun, the moon, and the stars refer to respectively? Let’s look at several verses, “For the LORD God is a sun….” (Psalms 84:11) “And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shines in his strength.” (Revelation 1:16) “The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches….” (Revelation 1:20) From these verses we can see that “the sun” typifies “God” or “the Holy Spirit,” “the moon” typifies “the churches,” and “the stars” typify “the believers.” The light of the moon is a reflection of sunlight; that is to say, whether the condition of the churches is good or bad depends on whether there areenlightenment and maintenance of the Holy Spirit. When God comes again in the end time, as God’s work turns, the churches of the old age (the Age of the Grace) lose the working of the Holy Spirit and fall into darkness. And the brothers and sisters, because of having no working of the Holy Spirit, become passive and weak, receive no light in reading the Bible, have no enjoyment at meetings, lose their first faith and love, and indulge in the world and love money. Some even leave the church and turn to the dazzling world. Although some still attend meetings, their hearts have long gone to the outside world…. The present situation of all denominations and sects is a true picture of “the sun being darkened, the moon not giving her light, and the stars falling from heaven,” and it has just fulfilled the prophecy of Jehovah God by the prophet, “Behold, the days come … that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.” (Amos 8:11-12)
Let’s look at how the scene of “the powers of the heavens being shaken” is fulfilled. We all know that every time God opens a new age and brings a new work, it will “shake the heavens and the earth,” shaking the heart of every believer in God. In the face of God’s new work, there are always a group of sincere believers in God who will return before God’s throne and some other people who will be eliminated due to their resistance. For example, when Jesus was incarnated and came to earth, his work “disturbed” all those who observed the regulations and rituals under the law. It had truly “shaken the heavens and the earth.” Some people received great grace and were redeemed because of believing in Jesus and accepting God’s new work,while some were punished and eliminated because of resisting and rejecting Jesus. Today, after two thousand years, God’s Spirit has again been incarnated and come to earth, ending the Age of the Grace and opening the Age of the Kingdom, which has shaken the religious world once again. In the whole Mainland China, is there anyone who doesn’t know or is unaware of Almighty God’s new work? In the end time, Almighty God has descended in the East of the world, which, like a bolt from the blue, has shaken the heart of everyone from various sects and denominations. As the kingdom gospel spreads, tens of thousands or even millions of brothers and sisters have fallen into this stream and returned before God’s throne. Just as Almighty God says, “God’s incarnation has shaken every sect and circle, ‘disturbed’ the original order of all religious circles, and shaken the heart of every one who thirsts after God’s appearing. Who does not adore him? Who does not look forward to seeing God? God has been to the world personally for many years, but people have never discovered. Today, God Godself has appeared and made his identity known to people; how could this not make their heart joyful? God once shared sorrows and joys with people. Now he reunites with mankind, and talks about the old days with them.” “I am doing my work in the entire universe, and in the East loud voices like the pealing of thunders issue forth unceasingly, shaking every denomination and sect. It is my utterance that has brought all people to today. I cause all people to be conquered because of my utterance, and all fall into this stream and become subject before me. For I have long taken back my glory from the whole earth and sent it forth from the East again. Who does not expect to see my glory? Who does not look forward to my returning? Who does not thirst for my reappearing? Who does not long for my loveliness? Who will not come to the light? Who will not see the riches of Canaan? Who does not expect the return of the ‘Redeemer’? Who does not look up to the Mighty One? My utterance will be proclaimed in the whole earth. I will utter my voice and speak more to my chosen people, which will shake mountains and rivers like mighty thunders. It is to the entire universe that I speak, and it is to mankind that I speak. So the word of my mouth will become people’s treasure, and all people will treasure my word. It is from the East that the lightning flashes even to the west. My word is inseparable to man, is unfathomable to man, and even more, is joyful to man. Like a newborn baby, all people will be happy and joyous, celebrating my coming. By my utterance, I will bring all people before me.” (from The Word Appears in the Flesh)
Just because the Lord has come and done a new work in China, all denominations and sectsthat can’t keep up with the pace of God’s new work are rejected by the Holy Spirit’s working. Without the working of the Holy Spirit, naturally people in religions can’t receive God’s life supply at meetings, and the religious place becomes desolate. Only those who accept God’s new work can receive the working of the Holy Spirit, receive the life supply of God’s word, and live in the watering and shepherding of God’s word. Naturally, they are satisfied in spirit, grow in life gradually as God’s work deepens, and increasingly live out the likeness of a real man with whom God is pleased. Almighty God says, “One day, when the entire universe turns to God, the center of the work of the entire universe will follow God’s utterance. In other places, some people will make phone calls, some take planes, some take ships at sea, and some use laser, to receive the utterance from God. Everyone will adore, and everyone will long for. All will draw close to God, all will gather to God, and all will worship God. All these are God’s deeds. Remember this! God will by no means make another start in any other place in the future. God will accomplish this fact: People in the entire universe will all come to meet God and worship the God on earth. God’s work in all the other places will stop, and all people will be forced to search for the true way. It will be like the case of Joseph. Everyone went to him for things to eat and bowed down to him, because he had food to eat. In order to escape the disaster of starvation, all people will have to seek the true way. The entire religious world will suffer a severe famine. Only the God of today is the spring of living water and has the ever-flowing spring for people to enjoy. All people will turn to him. That will be the time God’s deeds are manifested and the time God gains glory. People in the entire universe will all come to worship this inconspicuous ‘person.’ Won’t it be the day God gains glory? One day, even pastors of old age will have to send telegrams to seek the water from the spring of living water. They, though of advanced age, will have to worship this person they despised, confessing with their mouth and believing in their heart. Won’t it be a miracle and wonder? When the whole kingdom rejoices, it will be the day God gains glory. All those who come to you and receive the good news of God will be blessed by God. Such nations and such people will all be blessed by God and cared for by God. The future trend is that those who receive the utterance of God’s mouth will have the way to go forward on earth, and those who receive no utterance of God’s mouth will not be able to take a single step and will be forced to seek the true way, no matter whether they do business or scientific research, or engage in education or industry. This is ‘Having the truth, one can travel all over the world; having no truth, one cannot take a single step.’ This is the fact. God just uses the ‘Way’ (the ‘Way’ is all God’s words) to control the entire universe and to govern and conquer mankind.” (from The Word Appears in the Flesh)
Dear brothers and sisters, through the above fellowship, we should have dropped our notions and imaginations concerning this verse. Comparing the true conditions of the religious world with the conditions of the churches that have accepted Almighty God’s new work, we will all see clearly that the scene of “the sun being darkened, and the moon not giving her light; the stars falling from heaven, and the powers of the heavens being shaken” has alreadyappeared in all denominations and sects, and that the Lord we have been expecting has alreadycome. May we all come sooner before the throne of Almighty God, the end-time Christ, joyfully greet God’s coming, and receive the full salvation God has revealed in the end time.
