From this question we can see that brothers and sisters have mistaken the work of “reproving the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment” done by the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, for the work of judgment God does in the end time. To understand this, let’s first have a fellowship about the meaning of these words the Lord Jesus said. John 16:7-11 says, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send him to you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and you see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.” These words spoken by the Lord Jesus refer to the work that the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, would descend to do after his work in the flesh was finished. After the Lord resurrected and ascended to heaven, God sent the Comforter, the Holy Spirit (that is, the Holy Spirit of Pentecost), to uphold the work of the Age of the Grace. This was another way of God’s working. The Comforter, the Holy Spirit,descended on people and did within them the works of inspiring, enlightening, guiding, comforting, rebuking, empowering them, bestowing faith to them, and so on, which helped people turn to the Lord, better understand his word, act to his will, cooperate with his gospel work, and testify the salvation of the cross of the Lord Jesus. The main work that the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, did was to let people receive power from God so that they could testify the salvation of the cross of the Lord Jesus and spread his gospel to the ends of the earth, thereby causing more people to receive salvation from God, be delivered from the bondage of the law, and receive peace and joy. Just as the Bible says, “But you shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come on you: and you shall be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) Then what does “of sin” mean? Let’s look at these verses, “He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” (John 3:18-19) From this we can see that “of sin” means that man was condemned because he heard the gospel of the Lord but didn’t believe in him. Then what does “of righteousness” mean? TheBible says, “And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.” (Acts 13:39) This shows that “of righteousness” means that man was forgiven of his sins and was justified through his faith in the Lord Jesus. Of course,proclaiming the salvation of the cross of the Lord Jesus was even more “righteousness” andcould even more receive God’s approval. Just as the Bible says, “How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace.” And “of judgment” means that satan, the devil, would be condemned and judged by God for his disturbing the work of the Lord and persecuting the believers in the Lord. In a word, “reproving the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment” refers to the work that the Holy Spirit did from the time the Lord Jesus ascended to heaven till the time he comes the second time. The Holy Spirit worked in that way at that time in order to uphold Jesus’ work and testimony on earth and make people confess and repent of their sins and receive the Lord’s salvation, thus achieving the results of God’s work in the Age of the Grace. However, the work of judgment God does in the end time, as we see from the Bible, is mainly to separate the sheep from the goats, judge and purify man, reward the good and punish the evil, and decide man’s outcome. Obviously, the work the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, did in the Age of the Grace is totally different from the work of judgment God does in the end time. Let’s read a passage of the Bible, and we will be clearer. John 12:46-48 records, “I am come a light into the world, that whoever believes on me should not abide in darkness. And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejects me, and receives not my words, has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” From these verses we know that God’s work in the Age of the Grace was mainly to save the world but not to judge it and that in the end time, God will reveal everything and judge all who don’t keepGod’s words. At this point, I think that the brothers and sisters will no longer confuse the work of the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, in the Age of the Grace with the work of judgment God does in the end time.
The work of judgment Almighty God does in the end time is a stage of work of the word, that is, a work of revealing man and purifying man through his word of chastisement and judgment. As the Lord Jesus said, “I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth….” (John 16:12-13) And 1 Corinthians 4:5 says, “Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts….” From these two verses we can see that when the Lord comes the second time, he will express more words and release more ways of life. God will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and expose the thoughts of men’s hearts through his word, that is, disclose all of men’s corrupt disposition through his word so that they can know themselves, have their disposition transformed, and become holy. This is exactly the work of judgment that God will do in the end time. The end-time work of judgment is that Christ exposes and dissects man with the truths of many aspects, causing man to have a true knowledge of God and understand God’s will, causing man to know his true self and know the substance and the root of his corruption, and causing man to gain the truth, the way, and the life he needs to be saved. Let’s look at what Almighty God says about the end-time work of judgment, “When the word ‘judgment’ is mentioned, you will think of the words Jehovah spoke to every place and the words Jesus rebuked the Pharisees with. Those words, though severe, were not God’s judgment on man but only words God spoke at that time in different circumstances, that is, in different backgrounds. Those words are different from the words the end-time Christ judges man with. The end-time Christ uses the truths of many aspects to teach man, expose man’s essence, and dissect man’s words and deeds. These words contain the truths of many aspects such as, man’s duty, how man should obey God, how man should be faithful to God, how man should live out a normal humanity, God’s wisdom, and God’s disposition, and so on. These words are all directed at man’s essence and man’s corrupt disposition. Especially the words exposing how man rejects God are directed at man’s being the embodiment of satan and at man’s being the hostile force against God. In doing the work of judgment, God does not thoroughly speak about man’s nature with a few words but exposes, deals with, and prunes for a long time. These exposing, dealing, and pruning in various ways cannot be substituted with ordinary words but are substituted with the truths man does not have at all. Only such a way is judgment, and only such judgment can subdue man and can cause man to be sincerely convinced toward God and have a true knowledge of God. What the work of judgment brings is man’s knowledge about God’s real image and man’s knowledge of his true condition of being disobedient. The work of judgment causes man to understand much about God’s will, understand much about the purpose of God’s work, and comprehend much about the mysteries man could not understand. And it also causes man to know and understand the substance and the root of man’s corruption and causes man to discover his ugly face. All these work results are brought by the work of judgment, because the substance of the work of judgment is actually a work that God’s truth, way, and life are opened to all those who believe in him. This work is the work of judgment God does.” (from The Word Appears in the Flesh)
Now, the end time has arrived. The Jesus who has returned in the flesh, that is, the incarnated Almighty God, is doing the work of judgment with his disposition of righteousness, majesty, and intolerance of man’s offense. Through disclosing man’s corrupt nature anddissecting man’s words and deeds with the word, he causes man to know his disobedience and resistance and see clearly his ugly self of disliking the truth and not loving God. This has exactly fulfilled what the Bible records, “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God….” (1 Peter 4:17) “And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shines in his strength.” (Revelation 1:16) “And I saw another angel fly in the middle of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.” (Revelation 14:6-7) From these verses, we can see that the everlasting gospel refers to the work of judgment God does in the end time, that is, the work of God’s chastising, judging, and purifying man with his sword-like word. This is exactly the judgment before the great white throne as mentioned in Revelation and is the work of decidingman’s destination and outcome. Almighty God says, “In the final work of ending the age, God’s disposition is chastisement and judgment, exposing all unrighteousness, judging all peoples publicly, and perfecting those who love him with a true heart. Only such disposition can end the age. The end time has come, and all things will be after their kinds and be divided into different kinds according to their different nature. This is the very time God reveals men’s outcomes and destinations. If men do not undergo chastisement and judgment, their disobedience and unrighteousness cannot be exposed. Only through chastisement and judgment can the outcomes of all things be revealed. Only in chastisement and judgment will men show their true self. The evil will return to the evil, and the good will return to the good, and all men will be after their kinds. God will reveal the outcomes of all things through chastisement and judgment, so that he can punish the evil and reward the good and all men will become subject under his authority. All these works can only be accomplished through the righteous chastisement and judgment. Because men have been corrupted to the utmost and their disobedience is too grievous, only God’s righteous disposition revealed in the end time, which is mainly chastisement and judgment, can thoroughly transform men and make them complete and can expose evil so that all the unrighteous men can be severely punished. … If in the end time when he reveals men’s outcomes, he still loved men by bestowing endless mercy and lovingkindness to them and still treated them with love, not with righteous judgment but with tolerance, patience, and forgiveness, and he still forgave them and did not do any righteous judgment on them no matter what serious sins they have committed, then when could the entire management be concluded? With such disposition, when could he bring men into mankind’s proper destination? This is like a judge who always loves people. He is a soft-hearted and loving judge. He loves anyone regardless of what crime he has committed and loves and tolerates any kind of person. Then when can he decide a case rightly? In the end time, only righteous judgment can divide mankind into their kinds and can bring men into a newer state. Thus, God ends the entire age with his righteous disposition of judgment and chastisement.” “…the end-time Christ will teach people of every place with the truth and speak all the truths to them. This is God’s work of judgment. Many people feel very uncomfortable about God’s second incarnation, because people can hardly believe that God would be incarnated to do the work of judgment. But I still tell you, the work God does is often far beyond man’s expectation and is difficult for man’s mind to accept. This is because man is only a maggot on earth, whereas God is the supreme One filling the universe; man’s mind is like a pit of stinking water, which produces maggots only, whereas every stage of work directed by God’s thoughts is the crystallization of God’s wisdom. Man always wants to compete with God. Then I say that it is self-evident which side will suffer loss in the end. I advise everyone not to consider yourself more valuable than gold. Others can accept God’s judgment; why can’t you? How much higher are you than others? Others can lower their heads before the truth; why can’t you?” (from The Word Appears in the Flesh)
Now God’s end-time work is already an irresistible trend and popular feeling. God’s work always advances forward with mighty force, and is spreading to the entire universe with lightning speed. If we can’t accept God’s end-time work of judgment, we’ll lose the opportunity to reunite with the Savior. Brothers and sisters, may we all correct our erroneous knowledge, so as to accept the work of judgment that God does, be purified and perfected by God, and be brought by God into the pleasant destination.
